Prayers & Potatoes

Early May 2022 Elaine Allen approached Samantha Richards saying “God told me to come and talk to you – I want to feed the homeless.” And that was it! About a week
later a small team walked the streets of Surrey and never looked back.

Armed with sandwiches, juice packs, some chocolate, sweet tea, and lots of love, the three knew this was the start of something that would carry on. The absolute dire situation of the homeless population in the greater Vancouver area is breathtaking. The team was so affected by the stories and gratefulness of the people they served that plans were made to meet again later that month. Eight months later, the Prayers & Potatoes ministry is growing every month!

Folks are still blessing people with a meal, winter clothing, blankets, supplies, and most importantly an empathetic ear, the love of Christ and prayer. It is estimated this
ministry has connected with over 150 different people so far in 2022.

What makes this Ministry different from all the other meal programs? Glad you asked! While there are other programs that offer the homeless population food,
the Prayers & Potatoes members walk the alleys and side streets, encountering people who would have never made it to another location for a meal.

This initiative is completely crowd-funded by members and friends of the outreach. Monetary and seasonal clothing donations are always welcome! Please keep an eye out for the quarterly fundraisers, and if you would like to volunteer or want more information please just ask!
